Saturday afternoon, after Family Day was over and done with, we headed across the border to Washington. A whole bunch of NAC families went down to the Skagit Speedway to take in the "Dirt Cup" on Saturday night. Ok, can I just say that I have never in my life seen anything or heard of anything quite like this? It was crazy!
We got there and Derek had a big box of safety goggles he started passing out. We were like "What is this?! There's no way we'll be caught wearing these!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And the response was..."oh you will!" And sure enough, we were more then ready to get our eyes covered after the cars took their first rip around the track. It was a dirt track. Hence the name "dirt cup". The main event had 24 little sprint cars taking off at once. They would be going around the corners sideways. The dust and dirt just flew. And after a while you couldn't even see the other end of the track...there was a haze of dirt that just hung and polluted the air. By the time it was over at 11:00pm that night, we were all covered with more then our share of dirt and grit! Good times! :-)
We all stayed overnight at the Tulalip Resort. WOW! Our rooms were STUNNING! They were decorated in a mix of Native American Asian fusion. The extra touches and attention to detail was incredible. Everything in the room was for sale. They had a binder that listed all the items that you could purchase. Personally, I'd just like to buy the whole room and move it into my house! :-) It's a great location too - right next to the Seattle Premium Outlets. We didn't have much time to shop but that was ok...Nine West and Coach were able to inflict some damage on the credit card in short order before we had to leave. ha!
