NAC Family Day

We spent this past weekend in Vancouver. Max and I drove over on Friday afternoon to meet up with Keith who had been there for part of the week working. We had a spare hour before we had to pick up Keith at work, so we were able to squeeze in a quick visit with our old neighbours - Kelly and her girls Jaime, Cailin and Hallie. We lived next door to them on Beaumont. They are currently renovating their house (her hubby is doing everything and right now the house is basically a shell...and in some parts there's not even walls. It's very see through. Craziness! :-) It's going to be so awesome when they are done.) and so they are renting a place to live while the house is being reno'd. It was so good to sit and chat and visit again - just like old times! :-)

We then met up with Keith and returned his rental car. Ordered a pizza and crashed in our hotel room for the night. We were all very tired from our exhausting week.

Saturday morning we were up bright and early. We ate breakfast at The Pantry and got to see our favourite waitress (Suzy). Max and her get along really well. Max ordered his fav - a belgium waffle covered with strawberries and whipped cream. It's waaaaaay to big for him to eat on his own so we usually end up sharing it. And I'm not complaining. :-)

Then it was off to the job-site for Family Day. The project is winding down and nearing completion. This is the job that we moved out to North Vancouver for Keith to work on, 4 years ago. NAC hosted a family day to celebrate the completion. All the NAC employees who are working on the job, were invited to bring their families out for tours of the facility and a bbq lunch afterwards.

Lucky for Max and I, we got to be in the group that Keith was the tour guide for. He did so good - I was very proud of him! :-) We marched in and out of buildings and up and down stairs for over an hour and heard all about the project. My friend Michelle and her family were in the same group so we snuck in some visiting time too during the tour. :-) It totally made my weekend seeing Michelle and getting caught up. :-)

And for those of you interested about the project, here's some stats for you:

* Duration of Project: March 2005 - June 2009
* 40,000 cubic meters of concrete
* Peak manpower - 240
* 350 km of cable on 6 km of cable tray
* 82 different process systems
* 10,000 individual devices
* Clearwell contains 200 million litres of water
* Plant design capacity is 2 billion litres of water per day
* It's the world's largest ultraviolet filtration plant

Following the tour, there was a catered bbq for everyone. They had stainless steel water bottles for everyone and they great doorprizes - everyone was entered in a drawing for helicopter rides over the jobsite and watershed. Sadly, we didn't win but it was very cool for the ones that did.

We all had a good time at the event. The best part is seeing and getting caught up with all our friends within NAC including Al & Marj, Laith & Hind and family (Laith and Hind, Dana, Dina and Hayder officially became Canadian Citizens about week ago. It was very exciting to be able to see and congratulate them...they've been waiting for this day for a long time.) Pat & Michelle and their girls (so excited about the new little one they are expecting later this year) John and Julianne and their boys and the list goes on...

Definitely a very fun time!

P.S. just in case you're wondering - the very first two photo's of Keith on the job site were taken about a month ago when we were in town. The weather was really overcast on Saturday (at least it didn't rain though) so I thought I'd include some brighter pics that were taken a few weeks earlier.
