So you think you can dance is on tonight. :-) During commercial breaks I'm going to work at posting more photos from our week long vacation on Vancouver Island. I've alluded to it before, but seriously...we just love the Island. It's our most favourite place ever. Like, one of those places where your heart just feels so full, like it's going to burst because you're just so happy and can't even begin to describe it. That kind of place.
There are not very many places where you can set up your trailer literally steps from the ocean. We've only had the chance one other time and that was on the Oregan coast at Arizona Beach a few years ago. (When we went back last year, we found out they had closed it and it was only day use - we were sadly disappointed.) Needless to say, we were very excited to discover this little spot of paradise.
Camping (with basic ammenities) as a family is definitely our thing. We all just love love love it. There's something about being in the fresh air with an abundance of mountains, sand and water in close proximity. Meals eaten outdoors are waaaay more delicious, even if it is just Kraft dinner and sausage on a bun. And no evening is complete without a campfire to roast marshmallows (we're not s'mores type of people...we're all about the perfectly roasted marshmallows) and jiffy pop popcorn. Mmmmmmmm!
Max loves nothing better than digging in the sand, collecting shells, searching for sea creatures, running from waves and making little friends his age who are camping as well. This place had it all. The only drawback is that there were no showers. And as I've mentioned in previous posts, this is a dealbreaker for me. But... since we'd heard we would be right next to the ocean, I agreed to make an exception for 2 nights. I can survive 2 nights without a shower...BUT THAT'S IT! And yes, it was all and well worth it! :-)
The pictures above should be pretty straight forward. The first two photos are of us driving on and off the ferry to the island. We took the Tsawwassen to Swartz Bay sailing. Max was exploring on the beach and found an unusual piece of kelp he's not used to. He came running back and announced that he had found some ham! (think deli-style shaved ham) We could not convince him that it was kelp. At least he didn't try eating it. Last photo of Keith with "Serious Coffee". We love discovering new little coffee places when we are travelling. Yes, believe it or not we don't exclusively drink Starbucks. And in case you were wondering, Serious Coffee is seriously good! :-)
