The Maxter made sure to get in some quality 20 minutes of ds playing time on our drive over to the Gerbers. He knew that once we arrived it would be put away for the rest of the day.

My mom's delicious Christmas dinner with all the fixings was being served at 12:15pm on Christmas day. We didn't have alot of extra time to play around at our house if we wanted to make sure we didn't miss out on the good food.
She's such a hard worker and a good cook, my mama...

The meal was served buffet style and we all found a place to eat somewhere...(it's getting tight!)...around the kitchen table...or the little secondary table set up in the corner...

...or in the family room around the coffee table. It's the food that counts after all!

Sparkly, glittery, Christmasy touches throughout the house...Loved this. It was so pretty. A big cranberry glass bowl, filled with a string of lights and an assortment of ornaments (castoffs from LeeAnne who went with a different coloured tree theme this year since red doesn't go with her living room transformation.)

Dinner is usually pretty chaotic and loud and colourful...people everywhere all the time. :-) It's not one of those "Norman Rockwell" style paintings of everyone sitting around a big long table eating at the same time! LOL!

See...somehow a skate even makes an appearance....must have been important and very relevant to the current topics being discussed...

I love the relaxed casualness of it all. It's what makes my family's dinner unique and comfortable. Feels like "home" to me! :-)

Apparently, we like to dress all festive. Heather was modelling the benefits of Christmas ribbon...use it on a gift and then it can be recycled into a hair decorative piece. What a novel idea. Poor Heather, she was sick over Christmas and not feeling very good at all. Considering how tough she was feeling, she was a good sport to let us stick this in her hair!

And oh yes....the two little partners-in-crime. Notice that no one else is around in the kitchen? Yet where do you find these two? Right by the cookie tray...mowing down. They can certainly help themselves!

Big Tradition. The big hockey game played on the driveway after dinner. The only time this is cancelled is if it's raining and the ground is muddy. There are often casualties. It's all in fun....but an earnest fun if you know what I mean. This year they stepped it up. Forget about running around on the driveway. We rented our cousin's outdoor rink for a couple of hours in the afternoon so skates and gear made an appearance. It was colder then it looks. Everyone got a good workout. And everyone declared that it was the best game yet...and fortunately there were no serious injuries.

Max was just in his glory...getting to play hockey with his big uncles and his aunties. And even grandpa!

Scoring on Grandpa....now that was the big challenge. Aunt LeeAnne had to try and get in on the action...

...and went for quite the spill in the process!

There were lots of little "friendly" altercations...

I didn't get alot of shots of the guys playing because I was so scared they were going to run me over on the ice. They could have cared less that I was there....but I cared! So I chose safety and did without the great photos.
Max and Wyatt had a ripping good time racing around the house on Wyatt's little car. They had quite the blast together.

The three of them tried to play piano together. It was a bit of a disaster when Wyatt showed up. All the sheet music basically went flyyyyyying......:-)

In the evening, we did our traditional penny auction. Jon and Chad took turns auctioning and as usual, lot so of good laughs were had...

LeeAnne seemed to luck out with all the fun stuff...

And yes. Obviously many people went to Dollarama for their penny auction gifts. And quite a few had the exact same idea. As you can see from all these tinsely wigs that showed up...

Quite the rock band, they are. Ooooooh yeah.

The evening finished up with snacks, card games and chatting. We were the first ones to head home around 10:00pm. Lots of fun, laughter and warm memories. It was good. And the day was over so fast. Snap your fingers and it's a cozy memory. :-)
