Last Thursday afternoon, Max and I decided to hitch a ride with Keith and go along with him to the jobsite in Arnprior. We don't get the chance to do that very often. Since this was within driving distance and we didn't have school to worry about, it was the perfect opportunity.
Arnprior is quite a lovely little town. We arrived late Thursday evening and immediately met up with our friends, Greg, Terri and sweet Miss Charlotte for a lovely dinner at East Side Marios. Friday morning (before it was bright and early), Keith was off to work at the jobsite. Max and I kept right on snoozing. :-) But we didn't sleep the day away. Oh no siree. We were looking forward to exploring a new town together. And did we ever have fun! :-) It has been such a long time since we've had a chance to explore a brand new place together. Arprior is a cute little town. To get to the downtown area from our hotel, we had to cross the river and walk across a big long bridge.

Max thought that the town should "stop the water" and make this a skateboard park...

The NAC jobsite is located right across the river from the hotel we stayed at. Kinda tricky to see it in this photo....

Here's a better shot...

Keith had left his truck for us to use. However it was such a beautiful day, we decided to head out on foot to check out the town first and then come back and explore along the water and see how close we could get to the jobsite.

Max was over-the-moon thrilled to discover a shop that sold quads for kids. They were all lined up along the sidewalk. He had an impossible time picking out his favourite. Not that we were buying one. But a boy can always dream. ;-)

I found a delightful little shop called "Bonnie Jeans Scones". They had delicious coffee. Yummy lemon cranberry scones. And chocolate chip cookies that hit the spot. :-) It was attached to a cute little bookstore which was attached to an eclectic art gallery/gift shop. We spent quite a bit of time browsing and ended up with some new books for the Maxter to read and have read to him. Oh and jelly bellies. The gift shop had jelly bellies. We had fun picking out our favourite flavours. :-) Enjoyed a few of them right on the spot in a little garden beside the shop...

After wandering up and down the streets and seeing what we could see, we made our way back to the river by our hotel. We could get pretty close to the jobsite!

We found lots of rocks. There were big rocks to climb...

Rocks to sit on...

Rocks to throw in the water...

And rocks to read on...

Next up was a visit to the Arnprior Museum. Very cute and well done for a small town. They have three floors worth of local memorabilia housed in a century building. We had fun checking out all the displays including the fire truck...

and a dentist office...(this made me ever so thankful for todays modern advances in this field!)

At 2:00pm we walked down to the town's beach/splashpad/park. I'm sure it has a name, but I wasn't paying enough attention. A beautiful well-maintained area! We met Terri and Charlotte there. When we first arrived, there were hundreds and hundreds of kids running around. I kid you not. Day camps...daycares...you name it, they were all there. But within 1/2 hour or so, most of them were packing up to leave. And suddenly we had the entire spot to ourselves pretty much. Nice.

A couple of hours later, our husbands showed up. All done work for the day and ready to relax. We tried to sneakily get them sprayed with water from the splashpad, but they were up to our tricks and moved out of the way just in time!

And that concludes our time spent in Arnprior. We headed back to our hotel so Keith could change and then the three of us drove to Ottawa for the late afternoon/evening. A fantastically fun day. Max was so tuckered out from our walking everywhere all day long. I was a bit tired too...but I didn't let on to him! :-)
