the little roadtrip

Well hello there again. I appear to be a blogging machine these past couple of days. :-)  Today I'm sharing photos of a recent little roadtrip.

If you've been reading my little blog for any length of time, you've probably figured out that part of my (extremely hardworking!) hubby's job requires travel. It's not a predicable schedule. We can go for a few straight weeks without travel. Then wham! It's a few weeks of travel. Throughout the years of this type of a lifestyle, we've figured out the importance of making a special effort to carve out time together as a family when we have the opportunities. For sure, it helps us to keep things ticking together smoothly. A few weeks ago was one of those times where the weeks of travel were starting to add up. So on the Sunday we decided to take a little roadtrip. (Oh... just to be clear...don't want this isn't taken the wrong way... I'm not saying it's ok to regularly skip church on Sunday because family time is more important than time with God.  I hope no one reads into it that way. But in our specific situation, it happened to be a day where we both didn't have Sunday School teaching responsibilities (very rare) and there were no other pressing obligations staring us in the face. Keith was heading out the next day for a week, after just being gone the previous week and we knew without a doubt that we needed to take this day together as a family to reconnect. That is all!)

We started off our morning with devotions. I packed a picnic lunch and we were ready to head out. But wait...the weather was not cooperating...
Thunderstorms. Hail. LIKE CRAZY!! Balls of snow/ice were BOUNCING all over the place!

Should we still attempt our roadtrip? The weather was NOT promising at all. Particularly for a picnic lunch. But the weather channel was promising sunny weather in the afternoon. We decided to chance it.

We drove for quite a while. Following one of the great lakes (can't remember which one. LOL!) And gradually the temps started to climb...the rain stopped....and the air cleared. We stopped for lunch. Somewhere... Port Dover maybe? I really can't remember. Our first picnic lunch of the year. Not a very glamorous spot. We didn't care. At least it wasn't hailing.  And don't you think everything always tastes better eaten outdoors? Me too!  :-)

Afterwards, just beyond where we were eating our lunch, we discovered a nice little beach area. We were all over that! :-)

Beachcombing and rock skipping. Favourite things to do.

Finding treasures...

We continued on our way. Crusing through beach town after beach town....following the edge of the lake. The further we drove, the sunnier and warmer it got. Fabulous! And then we arrived at our final destination...

Any guesses?

Yes. Niagara Falls.

It was this guy's first time there. He was impressed. And loved it!
(We took him when he was 4 months old but that just doesn't count.)

We love Niagara Falls. This is where Keith and I were engaged. He proposed on the American side of the falls and then we enjoyed a lovely dinner in the Skylon Tower on the Canadian side afterwards. Awww! Has a special place in our hearts for sure. We haven't been there in years. Living on the far side of the country probably had something to do with that.

(Keith remembers doing the same thing as Max is in this photo, when he was a little boy...walking up on the stone ledge and jumping down when he got to a boulder. Then right back up for the next stretch. A little boy thing I'm sure.)

We spent a couple of hours, walking up and down along the falls, enjoying the warm sunshine and the views. Incredible views!

Heading back to our vehicle....
Haven't you always wondered what is inside these magestic old buildings?
The secret is safe with us!

We made it home by 8:00pm. Just in time to unwind in the hottub.
Yesssssssss.
It was a good day all around. :-)

P.S. Celebratory Happiness is reigning in our house today...thanks to the CANUCKS pulling through and WINNING last night.
what.a.tense.game.
I cannot believe that Keith and I stayed up to watch the whole thing.
The stress of it all could possibly taken a couple of years off our lives...there's no telling.
WOO HOO!
