The Aquarium Adventure

Early this morning we headed over to the Aquarium with some friends. Max and Jack are best buds from preschool. These two were very excited to have Jack's older brother Sam along for the adventure. They both think alot of Sam - it's cute to watch.

The most exciting thing on the agenda was to see the baby beluga which was born on June 10/08. That makes her one month old. Very cool! You have to line up and they allow a small group of people in at one time to the viewing area of the tank. You are supposed to be perfectly quiet as there are researchers working and also to keep it quiet for the baby beluga. There was a diver in the tank cleaning the algae off the viewing window. As a result, the mother Qila and the baby beluga were swimming together the entire time - apparently we lucked out. We all enjoyed seeing the baby beluga, even though all Max talked about was the scuba diver cleaning person! Go figure.

You can tell it's tourist season. The Aquarium was just polluted with people. We were glad that we got there early. After watching the baby beluga, we checked out various galleries. Max and Jack had definite areas they wanted to explore. They were busy looking at their map and could tell by the pictures what they were interested in....alligators and snakes....sea otters....dolphin show....sharks. Of course, no visit to the Aquarium is complete without a visit to the gift shop...(because that's the only way out - you have to go through the shop to exit. Smart marketing, huh?!)
We now have a baby beluga (stuffie) in our house. I've been told that I have to be more quiet so that we don't disturb the baby beluga - Max is very serious about and takes good care of his stuffies.

We had quite the windy weather here today. Which is very unusual. On our way through Stanley Park we had to dodge a huge tree branch lying in the road and then, we actually say a tree snap in half and fall to the ground from the wind. Scary! We were almost wondering if we should be there. That's the first time I've ever seen something like that happen.

This afternoon Max and I enjoyed a nice walk down to the village and visited the library and picked up a coffee for me. We stocked up on a bunch of "books on CD" for Max so he's been having a relaxing afternoon listening to stories on CD and following along in the books. We're just waiting for Keith to get home - hopefully within an hour or so.

So it was another fun day with friends. Sigh... this is what summer is all about! :-)
