Yesterday was Max's last day of preschool. He was not very happy about that. "We don't need summer vacation, mom!" he stated very matter-of-factly when I explained to him that pre-school was finished. Yeah, but your teachers do, buddy!
Today, the entire pre-school was invited to a "Teddy Bear's Picnic" at a nearby neighbourhood park. The teachers and parents board did a FANTASTIC job. It was very well organized with great activities. The park itself had a little water splash park area for the kids to run around in. Each child was asked to bring their teddy bear with them and as you can tell, the theme was teddy bears. In addition to the splash/water park, there were various stations set up for the kiddo's to amuse themselves...
*Face Painting
*Helium Balloons
*Bubble Blowing/Wands area
*Scavenger Hunt
*Teddy Juice (where they could help themselves to drinks whenever they felt like it)
*Cookie Decorating (yummy cookies in the shape of a teddybear of course were supplied and the kids could spread icing on them and decorate with sprinkles and mini m&m's)
*Teddy Decorating Station (The kids could bring their teddy bear to this area and Build-A-Bear (B-A-B)had provided tags (to write the teddy's name on), red ribbon sashes to tie in a bow around teddy's neck along with the name tag and little yellow bows that went around the teddy's arms. Then they also got a sheet of B-A-B stickers and a B-A-B morraca. Pretty cool!)
*Parachute & games Station
*Painting on a huge mural
*TeddyBear Character (a mom dressed up in an awesome bear costume and walked around giving hugs and handing out goodie bags of gummy bears - a big hit with the kids!)
There were A LOT of kiddo's running around (and parents chasing!) and having a great time. The weather was lovely and it was the perfect way to end a year of pre-school. We're very happy and pleased with the pre-school that Max attended - great program and the teachers are FANTASTIC! He will be returning there in the fall. (BC does not have JK and SK. They only have one year of kindergarten so that means that kiddo's attend pre-school for 2 years prior to kindergarten.)
We spent the afternoon chalking on the driveway, playing on the back patio and going for a bike ride where we happened to pass a lemonade stand run by some neighbourhood kids down the street. Mmmmmm for 25 cents each, we enjoyed a refreshing glass of pink sweetness. I love it when the neighbourhood kids have lemonade stands - it's a summertime staple! These particular kids said they wanted to have an icecream stand but didn't have enough icecream to open it today. Mmmmmm...I'm hoping they follow through with that idea on another warm sunny day!
We finished up our day by dining out on the back patio for supper. We were only having leftovers, but somehow when you eat outdoors, the leftovers seem much more tasty and delicious. It's a good trick to know. And while we were eating, there was a marching band practising a few streets over from us and we were entertained with great music the whole time! Love summer! Love love love it!
