First Day of Kindergarten

Max has only been to one day of kindergarten so far (this past Monday) and that was just for one hour. He is very excited to attend full-time this week. Hopefully our schedule slows down and life returns to a normal pace with normal routines. I didn't have a chance to take very good pictures before he headed off to Kindergarten - combination of running late and a little man who only wanted to make pirate faces. So that's what we have - pirate faces in most of them.

He didn't say too much about kindergarten. We had to really pry to get any details. He did say that he only made one friend. I ask him what his name was. Max said "I don't know. And she's a girl." So that's as much as he would say. Later on he was chattering away about the washroom rules. Apparently the class took a trip to the washroom where the teacher explained the rules. It was so cute to watch Max tell us the rules - he was even using actions to show how you only use "One push of soap. And then you can press two times for the paper towel. But only two presses. And the garbage can is at the front of the room where you put the paper towel. And we only have two potty's for the kindergarten class. There are 3 other potties. But they are for the grade two's and the grade one's only." I could just hear his teacher explaining these rules to the class the same way that Max was relating them to us. So cute!

We are back in Kelowna...arriving home on Friday evening. It was an emotional week for us and we are heartbroken with the events that occurred. Not only have we lost our friend Nelson, it feels like we are losing his wife now as well. Today she is flying back to Cape Breton (where they are originally from) and won't be returning. Her house will be packed up and shipped to her later this month. Keith is flying out first thing tomorrow morning to Sydney, NS to attend the wake and funeral. Max and I were originally going to go as well. However, we just decided it wasn't the best idea - 18 hours of flying time on Monday including 3 flight transfers and 4 hour time differance for a little boy who's been living out of suitcases for the past 1.5 months. Add to that a funeral service to attend and then flying back 2 days later...probably not a good idea.

And speaking of the little man, his 5th birthday is tomorrow. He's totally lucking out because he's getting two days of birthday celebrations and gifts! Since Keith's flight leaves tomorrow morning at 6:00am - we decided to start celebrating early around here. The decorations went up last night and he's already been opening gifts. Lucky boy! :-)

I had to laugh about you saying Max had one friend and "she's a girl." In Ryan's kindergarten class, he talks about all the boys and the girls but one girl he always calls her "my girlfriend Jaime." So obviously she is a little more special than the other girls!!
