The truth is.....the weather's been too nice. And when the weather is fabulous I get too busy doing things outdoors and around the house and blogging goes on the back burner.
I'm going to quickly attempt to get caught up with what we did over March Break this year. We didn't go away...stuck close to home. We went away one March break a few years ago...and kind of vowed not to do it again.....it was so crazy with everyone else going away at the same time. We like travelling a bit off-season so we're not dealing with the masses. I guess we should say "never say never" because you never know....but it's still fresh enough in our minds that we're more than content staying put here over the break.
All right....here we go...
FRIDAY MARCH 9 - MARCH BREAK BEGINS!

The first weekend heading into the break was filled with hockey and family. Jon & Sheila and boys came over for lunch and part of the day. Later on we all went over to my parents and enjoyed a fun chocolate fondue evening.
SUNDAY, MARCH 11
Sunday for lunch my entire family went out to celebrate my mama's 60th birthday. Her milestone birthday was back in October last year. We had planned to all go out to celebrate when my brother and his family were here visiting in early December. The restaurant was booked and everything planned. But then my grandpa got sick....and life went on hold and we almost forgot about the reservation. As it turns out, we were all at my grandpa's funeral the day that we had picked to celebrate my mama's birthday. Isn't that strange/interesting how life goes sometimes? So we postponed the celebration. The next time our family was all together was at Christmas. No one felt like celebrating a birthday at Christmas. And so it finally brought us to March Break. Everyone was all together and it worked to go out. We booked the Century Room at the Stone Crock in St. Jacobs (perfect setup for a family of our size with small children) and had a really lovely birthday brunch.
Love these next two shots of my mama opening her birthday gift and realizing what it is...I'd say that she was pleased with it! :)
Afterwards we headed back to my parents and hung out for the rest of the afternoon. This is just the start of the nice stretch of weather that we've been enjoying...
The little men discovered a fresh groundhog hole (much to the dismay of grandma...):
They spent alot of time devising traps and snares to catch the groundhog. This one involved some freshly peeled organic carrots used for bait. (Please note: No groundhogs have been caught yet to this point.)
When the novelty of groundhog catching and exploring wore off....new excitement was thought up. In the form of a bonfire. Visions of marshmallow roasting was filling their heads...
When the little men came in the house asking "please can we have a lighter to light our bonfire?", the answer was a resounding "no" and some of the big men decided they better get outside to supervise and oversee.
MONDAY, MARCH 12
I didn't have alot of activities and day-trips pre-planned over the break. I wanted to see what the weather was like and then plan accordingly. So heading into Monday there was nothing planned for the entire day. Which worked out quite well. First thing in the morning, Max's best friend knocked on the front door and wondered if Max could come over to play for the morning. Max was just walking in the front door for lunch when the phone rang and this time it was another best friend wondering if he could come over and play all afternoon. So the first day was spent playing with his bestest friends. When he finally arrived home later in the afternoon, I had a special job for him. Shredding documents using the paper shredder. I had been busy purging files and cleaning out cabinets while he had been at his friends houses. He quite enjoyed the little task I had set aside for him:
TUESDAY, MARCH 13
We spent all day at the Plattsville arena for a hockey tournament. Keith took the day off work so it turned out to be a lot of fun! (Max is the little guy in front)
Skills Competition: Max was part of the relay race - 4 players from each team competed against each other:
Max's team won first place...proud mama moment! ;-)
Showing off his winning "medal"....
Our Huskies played an awesome three games and WON the tournament! They were pumped! And tired! It was a long day....
Showing off his winning hardware....
WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14
Another fun day...This time it was filled with a cousin playdate. We spent most of our time outdoors...chalking on the driveway, playing with nerf guns, playing on the school playground and just enjoying each other...
In the evening, quality father/son time... designing and building of the marble maze. This is a school project that has been looked forward to since Max was in grade one. He has been impatiently waiting until the day that he can design and build one. It was a mighty fine evening so the two of them got to work.....
Unfortunately a certain little person got distracted with some type of nerf toy. And then proceeded to get his finger stuck in the toy. Which lead to some patience and careful saw cutting by his daddy. I couldn't bare to be around while he was cutting through plastic to free Max's finger...I would have had to take him to emerg if Keith hadn't been around. It was def a lesson learned for the Maxter. He doesn't look to perturbed or stressed in the photo below though, does he? This was right in the middle of the ordeal....
I just realized that this is the last of the photos that I have on my computer. Which means I haven't downloaded any memory cards for a while. Stay tuned...part 2 of March Break will show up eventually.
